When it's time for asphalt roofing work.
Building new or adding an additionNew construction and additions need a full asphalt system installed from the deck up, matched to the rest of your home.
Current shingles nearing end of service lifeWidespread curling, cracking, or granule loss signals a roof that's ready for full replacement rather than continued spot repair.
Wanting to upgrade to architectural shinglesHomeowners looking for a more dimensional look or stronger wind resistance often choose to upgrade during a replacement.
Comparing options before committing to a systemSome homeowners want a clear comparison of asphalt against other materials before deciding on their roof.
A straightforward, cost-effective roofing solutionAsphalt remains a reliable, well-understood option for homeowners prioritizing straightforward performance and value.
The full scope of an asphalt roofing project.
Asphalt roofing covers installation of standard three-tab or architectural shingle systems, including underlayment appropriate to the shingle type, flashing at all transitions and penetrations, and proper ventilation to support the roof's long-term performance. Whether the project is new construction, a full replacement, or a standalone addition, the same attention applies to every layer, not just the visible shingle surface. Material selection is part of the scope too, with options and trade-offs explained clearly before you commit.
Step-By-StepHow an asphalt roofing project unfolds.
1Material selection
You'll review standard and architectural shingle options, comparing appearance, durability, and cost to find the right fit.
2Written scope and scheduling
A written scope and price are provided, along with a realistic project timeline before work is scheduled.
3Deck preparation
For replacement or new installation, the deck is inspected and prepared, with any needed repairs completed first.
4Underlayment and flashing
These protective layers are installed to specification, forming the water barrier beneath the visible shingles.
5Shingle installation
Shingles are installed following manufacturer pattern and exposure guidelines for consistent, weathertight coverage.
6Final walkthrough
The completed roof is inspected and reviewed with you before the crew clears the site and considers the job finished.
What determines the size of the project.
The scope of an asphalt roofing project depends on whether it's new installation, full replacement, or addition work, along with the complexity of your roofline. A simple, single-plane roof involves a more contained scope than one with multiple valleys, dormers, or steep pitches. Deck condition, discovered once old material is removed on a replacement project, can also affect the final scope. Any changes discovered along the way are communicated and approved before proceeding.
Our StandardsWhat every asphalt roofing project is held to.
What Zuni, NM homeowners ask about asphalt roofing.
Architectural shingles use a heavier, multi-layer construction that generally offers a longer service life and stronger wind resistance than standard three-tab shingles, along with a more dimensional appearance, at a moderate cost increase.
Service life varies by shingle type, installation quality, and climate exposure, with architectural shingles generally outlasting standard three-tab options. A technician can give you a realistic expectation for your specific material choice.
Asphalt roofing performs well across a wide range of climates when installed correctly, and material selection can be adjusted for wind and heat resistance based on your specific location and exposure.
A full tear-off is generally recommended to properly inspect the deck and ensure underlayment and installation meet manufacturer specification, though a technician can assess whether your specific situation allows other options.
Most residential asphalt roofing projects are completed within one to two working days, weather permitting, with a specific timeline provided as part of the written scope.
Lighter colors can reflect more heat than darker ones, which may have a modest effect on attic temperature, though ventilation and insulation typically play a larger role in overall roof performance.
The written warranty covers defects related to installation quality. Manufacturer defects in the shingle material itself are separately covered under the material producer's own warranty terms.
